Counselling

LifeLine/ChildLine Namibia currently runs the only national 24/7 helpline-based counselling service in Namibia. In addition to the Helplines that are aimed at ensuring children have a safe reporting platform, the Counselling Centre also does face-to-face counselling, Community, and school outreach programmes. The 116 Child Helpline provides a toll-free service focusing mainly on assisting children with difficulties dealing with emotional distress, abuse of all types, school-related (educational) problems, behavioural problems as well as family problems. While the 106 Gender-Based Violence Helpline aims to assist those who need help when found in a GBV-related situation. In partnership with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), this line is utilized as a key entry point for reporting Human Trafficking. However, clients use the lines interchangeably as well and assistance will still be provided. In addition, the LLCL Counselling Centre acts as an entry point for all cases; referrals are made to other partners/Ministries/Stakeholders according to the client’s need(s). The Counselling Centre has a skilled professional team made up of social workers, social work interns, students studying psychology and/or social work, and lay counsellors that can speak different local dialects. LifeLine/ChildLine Namibia is hosting the first-of-its-kind National Reporting Portal for online child sexual abuse (under the Internet Watch Foundation) on the website. The National Reporting Portal for online child sexual abuse material is there to sensitize the public to anonymously report child sexual abuse material and ensure the material is taken down from online platforms
